In July 2024, EWROC responders along with NOAA and other members of the National Large Whale Entanglement Response Network, helped disentangle a whale off the coast of Palos Verdes—an incredible moment of teamwork and dedication. The encounter was first spotted by drone pilot Mauricio Tassara, who captured stunning footage of the whale, later named Freedom. Mauricio has since created a short film about the rescue, now making its way through local film festivals. We’re honored to see this story of compassion and collaboration reach even more viewers.
